Stan Kenton has been such an under-rated talent for so long that it is a true shame. His attention to a creative interpretation of music, along with his unique use of instrumentation and rhythm -- are beautifully heard on this album from the mids - now available - FINALLY on a 5/5(16).

This LP contains some of Rugolo's most interesting work (highlighted by "Elegy for Alto," "Monotony," "Lonely Woman," "Cuban Carnival" and "Theme for Alto") and finds Stan Kenton realizing his goal of leading a concert orchestra rather than a dance band.9/

At last we come to the final CD in this twenty four CD compilation of the complete Stan Kenton Orchestra's 'Concerts in Miniature' series. Over the years a number of CDs have been issued of compilations of snippets from the large number of 'Concerts In Miniature' radio shows broadcast by Stan Kenton And His Orchestra/5(4).

The Progressive Jazz period lasted 14 months, beginning on September 24, , when the Stan Kenton Orchestra played a concert at the Rendezvous Ballroom. And it ended after the last show at the Paramount Theatre in New York City on December 14,

This album was produced in and released the following year. I believe it is one of the finest big band jazz albums ever made. The only trace of the pretentious side of Kenton is, unfortunately, the first track, "Prologue," or "This is an orchestra."/5(25).
